Stacey Cairnes explains what it is that attracts her to gardening with Co-ordin8.

“I have always loved plants! We used to have lots of plants where I live but unfortunately, they had to be removed to make way for an essential car park for doctors, nurses, deliveries and visitors.

All in a good days weeding!

“Luckily I am now able to visit Torre Abbey Gardens in Torquay and visit the Co-ordin8 Community Allotment in Paignton. Plants have always made me feel nice and they often smell lovely.

“At Torre Abbey, I’ve met and learnt about plants that I never even knew existed! I don’t mind being indoors but if I was inside all the time it would definitely not be my idea of heaven. Being outside with plants lets me see them and also get fresh air too. I love the touch of some plants and working with the soil. Flowers are my favourites. Daffodils, Sunflowers and Roses!

“When I was little and in hospital, I did not see the outside world until I was five. That’s why I like to make up for it now and get as much of the outdoors ( weather permitting) as I can. Springtime is brilliant.

Friends and flowers… can’t be bad!

“I love seed sowing and watching them turn into lettuce, beetroot, marigolds and sunflowers! I have met up with friends from the past since I have been coming to Co-ordin8 to garden again. We have been able to catch up and chat in the sunshine, plus I’ve made new friends too. I hope to keep gardening into my old age because it is keeping me young!”

It all ends up on the compost!
