We participated in the International Agatha Christie Festival. We went to a workshop run by Kenrow Education Arts Partnership, KEAP, and wrote our own mystery story as well as visit the Museum at Torre Abbey. We had an amazing day.
Take a look at the pictures and read our story The Quiet Man.

The Quiet Man
It was a warm summer’s evening. Hundreds of people had gathered to watch a film in the splendid gardens of Torre Abbey. The main attraction was John Wayne’s film The Quiet Man and the audience waited with great excitement. Sounds of music could be heard coming from the grounds as Jo Whiley spun some records by Jonny Cash. Jo wasn’t the only famous person there. Gail from Coronation Street sat on a deck chair, enjoying a picnic with her family. Zac Efron leisurely devoured a strawberry icecream. Amongst the guests, there was also private investigator, Poirot, who looked rather splendid in his perfect suit, sipped a glass of wine whilst observing the excited crowd.
Eating fresh raspberries, Snow White viewed the magnificent surroundings. She loved Torre Abbey and had visited the site many times as a child. She looked stunning in the setting sun. Many people glanced at her as she strolled through the grounds for she was truly beautiful. As she made her way to her seat to watch the film, she noticed a rather angry looking man staring at her. This man was Phil Mitchell from East Enders.
‘Alright?’ He grunted as she passed him. ‘I’m quite fine thank you,’ replied Snow White.
‘Ere!’ Phil said taking her by the hand. ‘Do you come ‘ere often?’
‘Not since I was a little girl,’ replied Snow White politely.
‘I ‘fink I love you!’ Blurted Phil, rather awkwardly. ‘Would you marry me.’ Snow White blushed as she turned away and kindly told the young gentlemen that she couldn’t possibly marry him as she was in love with a handsome prince.
Phil Mitchell was shell shocked. He wasn’t used to people saying no to him.
‘I’ll teach Snow White a lesson,’ he fumed as he waddled away.
At that very moment, Snow White’s evil stepmother was walking the grounds of the potent plants garden with her sister Mischief when she noticed Phil Mitchell walking towards her. She stopped him in his tracks and asked why he looked so unhappy. Phil explained that he had been rejected by the beautiful Snow White.
‘Oh, we could teach her a lesson,’ cackled the evil step mother. ‘Yes,’ croaked her awful sister Mischief. ‘We could make a nasty potion.’
The two women cackled so loudly that the whole population of the kingdom of Torbay felt shivers run down their spine.
The sisters didn’t waste any time. They mixed a potent remedy of foxgloves, deadly nightshade, frogspawn jelly, snail snot and snake venom. Handing Phil an apple as red as a ruby, the evil stepmother pierced two holes and poured the potion into the fruit.
As Phil Mitchell approached Snow white, holding the apple in the air, private investigator Poirot felt in his bones that something was up. ‘I detect a smell most horrid,’ he mused. He quickly moved around the grounds looking for his friend Zach Efron and a chap called Nigel to help him.
Phil Mitchell approached Snow White and offered her the apple.
All right darling,’ he said kindly. ‘I just want to be your friend.’ Snow White smiled and took the apple and just as she was about to take a bite Zach and Nigel swooped down and batted the apple away from her. It went high into the air and came thundering down from above and landed right in Phil Mitchell’s mouth. Before Phil knew what had happened the apple had slid down his throat, whereupon he fell asleep for one thousand years.
Meanwhile, the gentle folk of Torre Abbey enjoyed a wonderful night watching their favourite film ‘The Quiet Man’.
