This summer Co-ordin8 brought the Zoo to our students at our Paignton Parish Church Venue. This was all made possible with thanks to Carla’s Critters. Run by Carla Dunne who brings her very tame and well cared for small animals to local groups for a very special and interactive shared learning experience…and age is no barrier!
The purpose of Carla’s visit also being to allow students to experience different animal species close up and to learn about their physical, social and nutritional needs as living things to be cared responsibly for.
Carla’s Critters are rescue animals that thankfully now enjoy a blissful retirement in the hands of a very caring expert. Co-ordin8 Staff and Volunteers enjoyed the visit just as much as our students did too!
We managed to capture a few moments on film to help convey the essence of the day.
Carla arrives with an assortment of interesting portable carrying homes. But who is inside? The student group gathered in anticipation of what might be coming next!

Cuddly and Furry
Carla answers questions
Cuddly and furry were the first guests to make an appearance. They loved all of the attention that they received and being fed and groomed by our students too!
Childhood memories : Meet the Tortoise and give him a bath
Childhood memories were remembered when a dear little tortoise appeared and said hello over a dandy lion flower. He insisted on having a bath in front of us all and insisted that somebody scrubbed his back for him too! Before and after the session all of us had to sterilize our hands with hand sanitizer so that tiny weeny bugs were no a problem for people of pets!
Exotic pets
A Leopard Gecko A Hog Nosed Snake Giant Spiny Stick Insect A Giant African Land Snail A Hissing Cockroach A Bearded Dragon
Then some more exotic stars made their appearance to one of our student groups.
Other images of the day
Shed skin from the Bearded Dragon….very prickly!
Take a look at how the visit and the critters inspired creative artwork by the Co-ordin8 students.
